Dr. Behyar Zoghi is a physician–scientist, educator, and visionary founder of the Faravahar Heme-Onc Alliance, recognized for advancing cellular therapy, transplant survivorship, and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) management. His groundbreaking contribution to the ROCKstar study, which established Belumosudilas a treatment option for chronic GVHD, helped transform standards of post-transplant care worldwide.
During his fellowship, Dr. Zoghi conducted pioneering research on microRNA as a novel therapeutic strategy for chemotherapy-resistant breast cancer, earning a patent for his discovery and receiving the Texas Society of Clinical Oncology Award. A lifelong scholar, his PhD work focused on the molecular signaling of cancer metabolism, emphasizing angiogenesis and tyrosine kinase pathways. He is a triple board-certified and re-certified specialist in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology.
AsDirector of the Long-Term Transplant Clinicwithin the Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program at Methodist Hospital San Antonio, Dr. Zoghi leads a multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing patient recovery, immune reconstitution, and long-term quality of life after cellular and bone marrow transplantation. He holds academic appointments at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonioand the University of the Incarnate Word School of Medicine, where he has mentored and inspired hematology, oncology, and medical student trainees for over a decade. This is a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care and lifelong learning.
A prolific and accomplished investigator, Dr. Zoghi has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, abstracts, and invited lectures addressing transplant immunology, infection prophylaxis, and hematologic malignancies. His translational research has directly contributed to the clinical development and FDA approval of therapies for chronic GVHD and chemotherapy-resistant cancers.
Dr. Zoghi’s honors include Castle Connolly Top Doctor, Texas Super Doctor, the ACP Early Career Physician Leader Award, and the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas Grant Award. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians(FACP) and an active member of the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT), American Society of Clinical Oncology(ASCO), American Society of Hematology(ASH), and the European Hematology Association(EHA).
Through the Faravahar Heme-Onc Alliance, Dr. Zoghi extends his mission beyond medicine—bridging science, spirituality, and culture to inspire collaboration, compassion, and illumination in the practice of hematology and oncology.
Dr. Zoghi is from Donbelid, Taleghan, a valley cradled in the arms of the Alborz Mountains, where the air is clear, the rivers speak, and the people carry both humility and mountain pride. Taleghan is not merely a place—it is a spirit of endurance, wisdom, and light. It is the land where dawn touches the snow peaks of Alborz, where every spring sings of freedom, and where each child learns courage, kindness, and truth.
From this mountain heritage—celebrated in the Shahnameh through the legends of Arash, Fereydun, and Simorgh—Dr. Zoghi carries the light of Faravahar, the eternal symbol of wisdom, freedom, and healing.
He credits his strength and vision to the lifelong mentorship and love of his parents, Ali Akbar Zoghiand Alamtaj Rezakhani, and his in-laws Ed KhoshnoudiandFarimah Khoshnoudi to the enduring support of his wife and daughter, BaharandKathryn, who embody the same grace, compassion, and perseverance that define Taleghan itself. “I love the concept of treating both the body and the soul. Science, medicine, and faith are like the two wings of a bird—only by using both can we truly soar. I believe that the power of Ahura Mazda and the Faravahar on one side, and the science of hematology and oncology on the other, together illuminate the path toward healing and extend the light of the universe. By honoring and incorporating each patient’s spiritual beliefs as a source of strength, we can harmonize faith and medicine to guide compassionate, holistic, and transformative cancer care.”
Outside of medicine, Dr. Zoghi’s intellectual passions include history, politics, and Persian mythology, fields that deepen his understanding of civilization, leadership, and the timeless connection between knowledge, justice, and the human spirit.
Dr. Zoghi’s academic and research work spans translational science, immunotherapy, and stem-cell biology. He has contributed to national and international clinical trials in areas such as:
His publications and clinical trials have helped shape modern standards in transplant care and immune reconstitution.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Zoghi is a humanitarian deeply committed to improving access to healthcare for underserved populations. He provides telemedicine services to more than 700 patients daily in rural villages near his hometown of Donbelid, Taleghan (Iran), offering free consultations and medical care.
He serves on the Advisory Board of HeartsNeedArt, a nonprofit organization that integrates art, music, and meditation into the healing process for cancer patients, and is an active member of the World Affairs Council of San Antonio.
“The Faravahar Heme-Onc Alliance is more than a professional network — it is a bridge between Persian physicians, scientists, and healers around the world. We are united not only by our shared science but by a shared soul — the belief that knowledge, compassion, and culture together can heal.”
Under Dr. Zoghi’s leadership, the FHOA stands as a beacon for:
